On July 5, construction of the Phonethong super major bridge, the longest bridge along the China-Laos Railway, undertaken by the China Railway No. 5 Engineering Group (CREC-5), was completed, marking a significant progress in the construction the railway, a symbolic project of the Belt and Road Initiative.

Phonethong super major bridge, located in Lao capital Vientiane, has a length of 7,528.56 meters and 227 piers. It is a key project along the cross-border railway, featuring difficulties of safety management for transportation and erection.

Since construction was kicked off, the CREC-5 engineering team overcame a series of challenges such as the impact of the COVID-19 epidemic, the organizational difficulties, and a short period of effective construction, and completed beam yard construction within a month, creating an amazing“Vientiane speed”among railway beam yards of its kind.
