International Tunnelling and Underground Space Association (ITA) announced the winners of Tunnelling Award on November 12^th, 2018. The Baicheng Tunnel on Inner Mongolia-Jiangxi Railway has been awarded “Technical Project Innovation of the Year” for its pioneering application of the Mechanized Method with Large Section Horseshoe Shape EPB-TBM in loess mountain tunnel, while the Queershan Tunnel on National Road 317 gained “Project of the Year”. The ITA Tunnelling Award is hailed as the "Oscar" award in Tunnelling industry. It is the first time for CREC to win this Award.

Established in 1974, ITA is an international authoritative organization in tunnel engineering industry and has 75 member states now. The international competition "the ITA Tunnelling and Underground Space Awards", organized by NTA since 2015, seeks and rewards the most ground-breaking innovation and outstanding projects in tunnelling and underground space utilization. This year the event takes place in China, the second time in 28 years for China to hold such an event in view of her great achievements in tunnel industry during the 40-year development of reform and opening up.

Tunnel and underground projects from 20 countries competed for 7 ITA Awards of this year. 27 projects were nominated, including 5 CREC projects, namely the West Qinling Tunnel on Lanzhou-Chongqing Railway, the Queershan Tunnel on State Road 317, the Dongping Underwater Tunnel in Foshan City, the Baicheng Tunnel on Inner Mongolia-Jiangxi Railway as well as the New Badali Passage under Heiniu Road in Tianjin City.

There are 5 Chinese projects being awarded and CREC takes 2 of them, demonstrating the Company’s strong strength in tunnel construction and rapid development of Chinese tunnel technique. And the international influence of Chinese Tunnelling industry has also been increased.
