Anthem of CREC—“Trailbreaker”
The section connecting Nagqu and Yangbajain of the G6 Beijing-Lhasa Expressway opened to traffic on a trial basis on August 21. It marked the full opening of the Nagqu-Lhasa section of the G6 Expressway that stretches 295 kilometers. The CREC has been taking part in the construction of the expressway. With the new opening section, the total length of highways in Tibet has reached 1,105 kilometers. Lying at an average altitude of more than 4,500 meters above sea level, the Nagqu-Lhasa expressway is the highest of its kind in the world.

The Nagqu-Lhasa expressway is the first of its kind to connect the capital of the Tibet Autonomous Region with the prairie in north Tibet. After its opening, the travel time from Lhasa to Nagqu is shortened from previous six hours and more to current three hours. The section from Yangbajain to Lhasa runs 68 kilometers and features a designed speed of 100 km/h. The newly-opened section is 227 kilometers in length, with a designed speed of 120 km/h.

The Nagqu-Lhasa expressway is environmentally friendly. A total of 145 bridges were constructed between Nagqu and Yangbajain to minimize impacts on local wetland and grassland, and special channels were opened beneath the bridges for safe passage of yak and sheep flocks.
