On September 20th, the world's largest diameter hard rock tunnel boring machine (TBM) "Hongyi" jointly developed by China Railway Engineering Equipment Group and Sinohydro Bureau 14 was launched, and the second bid (Xianglushan Tunnel) of Dali Section of the Central Yunnan Water Diversion Project formally entered the TBM excavation stage.

"Hongyi" TBM has an excavation diameter of 9.84 meters, a total length of 245 meters, and a total weight of 2100 tons. It is the world's largest double-structure TBM for water diversion projects independently developed in China. It is also a construction tool tailored to adapt to the highly complex geological environment of the Xianglushan Tunnel. The equipment adopts a series of targeted designs, with an advanced geological prediction system, intelligently mixed spraying, slag-water separation, and other functions. In March this year, the "Hongyi" TBM was successfully offline. In order to ensure successfully start of the equipment, the technical service team of China Railway Engineering Equipment Group cooperated with the project department, made a good plan in advance, rationally allocated resources, and efficiently completed the installation, on-site assembly and commissioning of the "Hongyi" machine, laying a solid foundation for the timely start.

It is understood that up to now, the equipment developed by China Railway Engineering Equipment Group has participated in the construction of many major water conservancy and hydropower projects at home and abroad, such as the South-to-North Water Transfer Project, Jilin Diversion Song Project, Yunnan Diversion Project, Chuo Jiliao Project, Pearl River Delta Water Resources Allocation Project, Lebanon Greater Beirut Diversion Project, Australian Snow Mountain Project and Austrian Hydropower Project, and has provided shield/TBM equipment over 80. It has made positive contributions to the construction of water conservancy and hydropower projects in the world.
