On September 4, local time, the 8th Bangladesh-China Friendship Bridge, designed and managed by China Railway Major Bridge Engineering Group, was officially opened to traffic after six years of construction, becoming another witness of the friendship between China and Bangladesh.

The much-awaited Bekutia Bridge, formally known as the 8th Bangladesh-China Friendship Bridge, is located about 5km east of Pirojpur, Barisal District, southern Bangladesh. The total length of the project line is 3km, including a super-large bridge of about 1.5km, a road connection of about 1.5km, and related ancillary works. The bridge adopts a seven-span continuous rigid frame scheme. The bridge design incorporates elements such as an Islamic-style dome and a "Chinese knot" shape, reflecting the friendship between China and Bangladesh and the culture of the two places.

Since 1986, Chinese enterprises have participated in China's assistance to Bangladesh in building a Bangladesh-China Friendship Bridge, and have now built eight Friendship Bridges, which have not only witnessed the social development of Bangladesh, effectively alleviated traffic congestion in Bangladesh, greatly reduced flood losses and helped to achieve the dream of the Bangladeshi people in pursuit of a better life. It has also contributed to the continuous sublimation of the friendship between China and Bangladesh. These bridges have truly become the "popular projects" unanimously praised by the Bangladeshi government and the people and have been named by the Bangladeshi side as the First to Eighth Bridges of Bangladesh-China Friendship.
