The project is located between Qingdao and Huangdao, which is beneath the Jiaozhou Bay. Started in 2006, it has a total length of 6,170 meters. CREC will provide all survey and design services for the entire project. The length of the tunnel will be 5,550 meters, of which the sea section is 3,950-meter-long. It is designed as an urban tunnel with two-way double-hole six lanes. With a design speed of 80 km/h, the tunnel is 44.5 meters away from the bottom of the sea and its lowest point is 70.5 meters beneath the sea level.
