The Beijing-Tianjin-Tanggu Expressway is China’s first modern transportation project to be financed by World Bank loans and adopt international technical standards. It is also the country’s first expressway project contracted through international bidding under the globally-recognized FIDIC conditions of contract for construction work. The project won the first prize of Quality Road Engineering Award approved by the Ministry of Transport in 1995, the China Construction Engineering Luban Prize and the special prize of the Ministry of Transport Science and Technology Progress Award in 1996, and the first prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award in 1997.
