“Chunfeng” (Spring Breeze) is a China-developed balanced slurry shield machine with the largest operating diameter in the country and the first of its type with a diameter of more than 15 meters. Its development marked a notable technological advancement of China in this respect.

　　An industry leader in China, the “Chunfeng” slurry shield machine has an excavation diameter of 15.8 meters, a height equivalent to a five-story building, a weight of 4,800 tons, and a length of 135 meters. It has a total installed drive power of more than 11,500 kilowatts, which is 10 percent higher than the total traction of the Fuxing bullet train, and a thrust force of 24,600 tons, which is about 24 times stronger than the Long March-5 rocket, China’s largest heavy-lift launch vehicle. Thanks to the efforts by the installation personnel, China’s largest balanced slurry shield machine  started rotating its cutter at a record speed of 38 days and was made ready for initial launch in 50 days.
