Suspended monorail is a type of elevated rail system in which the train is suspended from a fixed track supported by steel or cement pillars. Construction of the suspended monorail uses smaller area of land and is less time consuming.

　　The successful trial run of the suspended monorail independently developed by China Railway Science & Industry Group conducted on November 9, 2020, marked the first unmanned driving test on such a rail system for commercial use in China. The suspended monorail train is able to carry 300 to 400 people in a single trip and provide transit service for nearly 10,000 passengers per hour, which is about half of the passenger traffic of metro while the construction cost is only one-fourth of the subway.
